The black and tan bad rep breed. I give you the handsome German Shepard with the looks to charm especially when puppies.
This dog well known to, catch criminals and fights crime along the police forces in England and the US,yet one of the most loyal breeds that would take a bullet for their owner and high up on the cleverness rating also high on the shedding scale.
This breeds top facts to know are:
Life span is 9-13 years.Height: 60-65 cm for Males and Females 55 - 60 cm.Do not really like being left alone.Known as "German Shedders".Can be suspicious of strangers.
This breeds temperament is sometimes misunderstood, as when you ask someone what are German Shepard sometimes the first words are strong, vicious, snappy, unpredictable.
Yes an untrained Shepard can be all those things as any other dog can be but really paired with the right owner who has done research on the breed, they can be one of the most loyal pets as seen in police forces they would take a bullet for their pack and owner, yes they are sometimes weary of strangers and can be aloof but if socialized well and everyday with many people that trait is very likely to calm down and their trust of strangers will rise.
Extremely intelligent and athletic and this fabulous duo of characteristics make for a great service, guide, therapy or just overall working dog and pick up trick very easily.
Also very energetic this breed is a must and needs to be walked and physically challenged everyday, with this comes responsibility as if left alone when not exercised they can lead to bark, dig, chew from pure boredom (but barking can be taught to stop by teaching the quiet trick which should be in German Shepard owner to do list.)
As with every hard exterior this breed is a softy at heart and love to play and cuddle with their nearest family members and known to lay at the feet of owners at bedtime as they love to always know that their family or owner/'s are safe. Also fairly Velcro like dogs as puppies they very much follow you around.
As puppies this breed are smart usually are fairly easy to toilet train and crate train but like many other breeds they dont like the crate unless they are trained to connect the crate with positive things and as they are so connected to their pack they are a breed that can get separation anxiety is not taught or crate trained properly.
This breeds healthy for the most part except for possible hip and elbow dysplasia as see in other large breeds like labs.
Lastly if brought up with kids from young this breed can be a excellent protector and also can grow up with other animal only if raised with from a puppy. This breed like many others however should not be left alone with young children.
Always remember "no dog breed is born "dangerous" its just bad and un informed owners who MAKE or train the dogs to be that way."
Hope you have enjoyed this stunning Shepard version of StrictlyDogs
